History
Miriel’s Safe Space Training started in 2022 with the developer modifying the Safe Zone Project to teach on behalf of the local LGBTQ Center. From this edited version of the Safe Zone curriculum, the first game design document was born in late 2023! Our team of transgender and nonbinary creators reviewed and edited the material that we felt was inaccurate or outdated. With the help of our talented artists, Miriel, our mascot, came to life as a teacher in an underwater classroom. The goal was to deliver the curriculum but on a low-pressure individual basis. The demo version featuring the first three activities was completed in 2024, to release on Trans Day of Visibility. With support, it can improve and expand into a full educational training with custom music, animations, and extra lessons.
Description
Join our Mascot Miriel in our underwater classroom to brush up on your LGBTQIA+ awareness and knowledge. This isn't just a training for allies- during in person trainings, most people have said they learn something new about the community or themselves! We don't have a lot of space in society to talk about these things, and Miriel's classroom is a safe place to learn and explore. Based on the Safe Zone Project training, this game examines prejudice, assumptions and privilege in a cozy environment with reflective exercises, interactive worksheets, written experiences from past students, and calming mindfulness activities.
